On Saturday 13 June, Olympos will become the beating heart of Utrecht student music during the UUnited Music Festival. In Utrecht University’s anniversary year, student music ensembles are taking to the city under the banner of UUnited On Tour. The UUnited Music Festival is the absolute highlight: nearly 400 student musicians will share the stage for a summer day full of musical diversity.
The participating music ensembles share one important foundation: they are all connected to Parnassos Cultural Centre, which is also the organiser of the festival and part of Utrecht University. For years, this cultural centre has been a breeding ground for student talent in Utrecht. It is where students rehearse, experiment and collaborate, and that energy comes fully to life during the festival.
From classical masterpieces to pop classics, from harmonious choral music to swinging big band sounds and surprising collaborations: all seven leading student music ensembles show just how rich and versatile Utrecht’s music scene is. This year marks the fifth edition of the UUnited Music Festival, and for the first time the festival will take place outdoors, with two stages, food trucks, bars and hopefully plenty of sunshine.
The festival takes you on a musical journey. The day begins with classical music from USKO, then gains an exciting experimental edge with De Cantorij, before expanding in the afternoon with Medusa & USConcert into a world full of musical stories, from One Thousand and One Nights to Scottish folk. Towards the evening, the tempo picks up as the audience sings along with Het Huisorkest, before everything culminates in a high-energy finale with USBB and Dekoor: an explosive collaboration between big band and vocals that is guaranteed to get the audience moving.
The UUnited Music Festival connects students, the city and the wider public, and ties in with Utrecht University’s anniversary theme: “Make knowledge, make a difference.” UUnited shows how music brings people together. Discover what student Utrecht has to offer musically!
