Road maintenance Universiteitsweg

The municipality of Utrecht will renew the Universiteitsweg between July and August with new asphalt and added greenery.
Renewal of Universiteitsweg: works in July and August
The municipality of Utrecht will start preparatory works on the Universiteitsweg on Monday 21 July. From 18 August, the outdated asphalt on this stretch will be replaced. The renewal is necessary because of the poor condition of the current road surface. In addition, asphalt will be removed in a number of places and replaced with grass to contribute to more greenery in the area. This helps collect rainwater, is beneficial for insects and provides cooling.
The work is divided into two parts. The preparatory phase runs from 21 to 25 July. During this period, among other things, thresholds will be removed and the carriageway will be prepared for renewal. During this work, one lane will remain available. Traffic will be directed past the work in turns, accompanied by a traffic controller. Cyclists and pedestrians can continue to use the crosswalks.
The actual asphalting work will take place from 18 to 26 August and will be carried out in three phases. During this period, there will be closures and diversions for each phase. The municipality will deploy traffic controllers to keep everything on track and ensure maximum accessibility. In the first phase, from 18 to 20 August, the entrance and exit to Leuvenlaan will be closed and Uppsalalaan will be less accessible to car traffic. In the second phase, from 20 to 22 August, the entrance and exit to Lundlaan will be closed. Traffic to the hospitals will then be diverted via the UMC Utrecht site.
The municipality recommends using public transport, biking or working from home if possible.
