Works on the tram track at Padualaan in Utrecht Science Park

To make public transport future-proof, Strukton is carrying out works on the tram track on Padualaan in Utrecht Science Park on behalf of the Province of Utrecht. In mid-January, works on the track will start near Weg tot de Wetenschap, just beyond the tram stop.

New switch for increased flexibility

During the works, a new track switch will be installed. This switch will make it possible for trams to change direction at this location in the future, known as a crossover. This will make the tram network more robust and flexible, contributing to a reliable timetable.

When will the works take place?

To limit disruption as much as possible, work will only take place during three weekends:

  • 17 and 18 January – preparatory works
  • 31 January and 1 February – installation of the switch
  • 21 and 22 March – adjustments to the signalling system and overhead lines

During these weekends, Strukton will work from Friday evening 22:30 until Monday morning 05:15. In addition, Strukton may also be present at night outside these weekends for activities such as preliminary investigations and measurements.

What does this mean for the surrounding area?

Safety is always our top priority, as well as Strukton’s. The work site will be fully secured during the works, and appropriate traffic measures will be implemented. De Weg tot de Wetenschap will remain accessible. Only cyclists using the Oxfordpad will be temporarily diverted.

The traffic measures and diversions will be published on the online platform MELVIN.
