De Pit opens in two weeks at the Educatorium – trial day today (20 January)

In two weeks, on Tuesday 3 February, De Pit will officially open in the Educatorium at Utrecht University. De Pit is an independent, student-run food initiative that originated from the Young Future Food Movement (YFFM). The initiative grew from a simple but powerful idea: everyone on campus deserves delicious, nutritious, and affordable food.
De Pit aims to be open every week from Tuesday to Friday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Closing time is flexible: “we only close when the food runs out.” During these hours, students prepare and serve a hearty, fully plant-based lunch, using ingredients sourced from local farmers. In the future, De Pit also plans to organise dinner events.
Following a successful first trial day last week, today, Monday 20 January, marks another trial day, offering students and staff the opportunity to experience the concept and taste the meals. Early responses highlight the fresh flavours, generous portions, and sustainable approach.
With De Pit, the team aims to enhance vibrancy and social connection at the Utrecht Science Park by creating a welcoming place where students can enjoy good food together.
