Running symposium including Dafne Schippers at Utrecht Science Park in preparation for Utrecht Marathon a great success
On Tuesday evening March 26, 2024, a running symposium took place at the Utrecht Science Park in preparation for the Utrecht Marathon on May 19th. Former top athlete Dafne Schippers, Radio Veronica DJ Sander Hoogendoorn, clinical exercise physiologist Erik Hulzebos and (sports) physiotherapist Eline Peterse, told the Utrecht Marathon participants from their practical experience and expertise how to optimally prepare for, perform during and recover from their running performance.
Running symposium
The running symposium took place in the auditorium of the Accelerator at the Utrecht Science Park. The hall was fully filled with more than 200 visitors. Visitors could register for free and heard inspiring and informative stories from these experts, where research and practice came together perfectly.
Moderator Sander Hoogendoorn, an active runner himself, kicked things off and had an inspiring interview with Dafne Schippers, during which the audience also had plenty of opportunities to ask her questions. She told those present about her impressive career, perseverance, dealing with disappointments, setting goals and her life after top-level sport. Then it was Erik Hulzebos' turn with an interesting lecture on controlling your breathing while running. A subject often underestimated by runners, but essential for good running performance. Finally, Eline Peterse gave a presentation on how, as a runner, you can optimally prepare for and recover from a marathon from a sports physiotherapy point of view, including some very useful tips that can be taken to the next training and race.
We are looking back on a very successful evening and are pleased that we were able to bring science and practice together this evening at the Utrecht Science Park. The Utrecht Science Park is the largest science park in the Netherlands, where about 30,000 employees and 55,000 students from medical centres, knowledge institutes and companies work intensively together on the development and application of groundbreaking science and solutions in areas such as health and sustainability. Sport and exercise play an important role in this. We are therefore pleased that the Utrecht Marathon will once again start and finish at the Utrecht Science Park. Through the running symposium, we gave further substance to this great sports event.
