WESTERDIJK FUNGAL BIODIVERSITY INSITUTE
The Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute, founded in 1904, focuses on enriching and expanding the world's largest and most versatile collection of living fungal cultures (currently over 100,000 species). In 1907, Johanna Westerdijk became director of the institute. To reflect her legacy, the name of this institute was changed to Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Insitute in 2017. Now and in the future, we are focusing our research more on novel fungal products. We will continue unabated to explore the world, collect new fungi and investigate their characteristics for socially relevant applications.The Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Insitute is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
