Winter closure Botanic Gardens
The Botanic Gardens go into hybernation as of Monday 1 December 2025. On Sunday 1 March 2026 you are most welcome again!
During the winter closure maintenance works and new developments will be realised in the Gardens.
Access with campus card and USP partner card
Employees of Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht and USP partners keep free entrance to the Gardens. With a campus card or authorised entrance card you can enter from 10:00 to 16:30 h via the tourniquets. For these card owners the Gardens will be closed from 20 December 2025 up to and including 4 January 2026.
The Tropical greenhouses, the Entrance building and the toilets are closed. Keep in mind that maintenance work will be done and parts of the Gardens may be closed for that reason.
Long term closure greenhouses
The current greenhouses, which house research facilities and a unique collection of tropical plants, are outdated and no longer meet the requirements of modern research and education. The greenhouses will close on 1 December 2025, and the new greenhouses are expected to open in 2028 at the earliest.
Venue hire during winter closure

Venues are for rent as of 1 December up to and including 19 December 2025 on working days.
No venue hire possible from 20 December 2025 up to and including 28 February 2026.
All rooms are available for rent daily from 1 March 2026.
