Dutch top athlete Jill Holterman at the start Utrecht Science Park Half Marathon Utrecht
On Sunday 19 May, Jill Holterman will be at the start of the biggest part of the Utrecht Marathon supported by Utrecht Science Park. The top Dutch athlete will take part in the Utrecht Science Park Half Marathon and is the odds-on favourite for the win. Holterman ran in the Tokyo Olympics on 7 August 2021.
Since 1 September 2019, Holterman has focused entirely on running. She took the decision to quit her job as a lawyer and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics at the NN Mission Marathon in Enschede with a time of 2:28:18. On 7 August 2021, Holterman finished 63rd in the marathon at the Olympics.
Recently, 32-year-old Holterman made an attempt at the NN Marathon Rotterdam to also secure qualification for the Paris Olympics. Due to injury, the endurance runner could not achieve this and finished above the Olympic limit of 2:26.50.
In Utrecht, Holterman hopes to regain herself. The Utrecht Science Park Half Marathon is a great preparation for the athlete towards the goals that follow later this year.
"As an organisation, we are happy to have a big name like Jill Holterman at the start of Utrecht Marathon, alongside a broad top regional field of runners in both the half and full marathon. The Utrecht Marathon is vibrant and you can see that reflected in the participant numbers." - Sophie Appeldoorn, project manager of the Utrecht Marathon.
The popularity of this year's Utrecht Marathon is huge. Already more than 12,000 participants are registered for the running festival in the "Domstad". The most popular part of the event is the Utrecht Science Park Half Marathon.
On Sunday 19 May, the event will start with the GenDx ¼ Marathon at 09.00 am. Followed by the Utrecht Marathon and Utrecht Science Park Half Marathon at 10.00 am. The last event to start is the Mini Marathon at 10.45 am.
