Together towards a healthy, sustainable society

Welcome to Utrecht Science Park. This is an innovative scientific community that aims to accelerate the development of a healthy, sustainable society. With more than 31,000 employees and 55,000 students, it is the biggest science park in the Netherlands.
Together with two satellite locations, Utrecht Science Park Bilthoven and Utrecht Science Park Zeist, we are working on the development and application of groundbreaking science and solutions for major societal challenges in the fields of life sciences, health and sustainability.

Utrecht Science Park is a community that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration with the aim of fostering social impact and economic value. The partners at Utrecht Science Park work together towards a healthy, sustainable society.

The Utrecht Science Park Foundation is committed to further improving the ecosystem of this unique concentration of knowledge and, through its connecting role, promotes collaboration between the partners and relevant stakeholders such as governments.

Ambitions

The joint ambition of all Utrecht Science Park partners is recorded in an ambition document and covers the following areas:

  • With its substantive profile, Utrecht Science Park is an integral part of the Dutch proposition and ranks among the best in Europe;
  • Utrecht Science Park contributes to the Utrecht region’s top-three position as the most competitive region in Europe with the lowest unemployment rate;
  • Utrecht Science Park is anchored in the region through strong physical, substantive and economic connections with the city and surrounding municipalities;
  • The environmental vision offers extra space for employment at the R&D companies in Utrecht Science Park; and also in the region, including at the satellite locations, the ecosystem has a magnetic effect on employment, which has a social and economic impact in the aforementioned focus areas.

All this is ultimately aimed at contributing as effectively as possible to relevant research and innovation in order to promote a healthy, sustainable society.

What makes Utrecht Science Park so unique?

Utrecht Science Park is a unique concentration of world-class knowledge. Numerous leading knowledge institutions, research institutes and companies are located within walking distance. Here are some of the key features of Utrecht Science Park:

  • It is the biggest science park in the Netherlands, with 31,000 employees and 55,000 students.
  • With six hospitals within 1.5 km2, Utrecht Science Park has the largest concentration of hospitals in the Netherlands: UMC Utrecht, Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, Princess Máxima Centre, Central Military Hospital, Major Incident Hospital, Animal Hospital (the only one in the Netherlands and part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University).
  • World-class research institutes are located here, such as the Hubrecht Institute (one of the world leaders in stem cell research), the Westerdijk Institute (with the largest fungus collection in the world), the RIVM and TNO.
  • You will find highly innovative R&D companies in the Life Sciences & Health sector, such as Genmab, Merus, Danone Nutricia Research and Bilthoven Biologicals (producer of polio vaccines).
