The new coronavirus is an urgent issue at the university. In order to help limit the spread of the disease, the government announced on 15 March that catering establishments, among others, will have to close their doors. This means UU has also had to close all catering locations with immediate effect since the start of this week.
Making a contribution
In consultation with the management of the Facilities Service Centre, our catering supplier Sodexo has taken the initiative to donate the food stocks to the UMCU (University Medical Center Utrecht). The University Corporate Offices have joined this effort, and the apples and pears that are delivered weekly are now provided to the hospital instead. In this way, we support the hospital staff who play an important role in the corona crisis. These are also environmentally responsible initiatives that prevent food from being thrown away unnecessarily and hence reduce food waste.
