Biotechnology companies Genmab and Merus are cooperating with Kadans Science Partner as developer for “The Accelerator”, a new multi-tenant Life Sciences building on Utrecht Science Park.

Merus N.V. (“Merus”) and Genmab B.V. (“Genmab”) initiated the development of “The Accelerator”, a new multi-tenant building designed by Paddy Sieuwerts (cepezed) to be located on Utrecht Science Park. The development and operation of The Accelerator is granted to Kadans Science Partner.

According to Ton Logtenberg, CEO of Merus and co-initiator of the project on behalf of the Supervisory Board of Utrecht Science Park Foundation, a design and cooperation have been realized during a unique course, which optimally fulfill the requirements of the participating parties. The plan allows Utrecht Science Park to take the next step in the development of a mature and dynamic Life Sciences environment, in which knowledge institutes and innovative companies can meet each other and cooperate to find new solutions to a longer and healthier life.

According to Jan van de Winkel, CEO of Genmab, The Accelerator is an excellent new chapter in the further development of both biotechnology companies and the unique innovation ecosystem on Utrecht Science Park. The plans are based on the central pillars of Genmab and Merus: the improvement of lives of patients by the development of innovative therapies for treatment of cancer, also by entering into collaborations. The building is designed for this purpose, with an auditorium for 250 people, various ‘meet & greet’ facilities, a business center and a spacious restaurant. This will provide the building with the connecting factor on Utrecht Science Park.

In addition to accommodating listed companies Merus and Genmab, The Accelerator offers space to multiple companies in the Life Sciences sector that want to accelerate their growth from start-up to scale-up.

Utrecht University is happy to cooperate as landowner. Anton Pijpers, President of the Executive Board: “Life Sciences is one of the strategic themes of the university. There is hardly any place in the world where so many leading Life Sciences institutes and companies are located within walking distance. The Accelerator is a wonderful addition.”

The Accelerator is planned to be finished early 2022. Jones Lang LaSalle and Stone22 acted as consultants for Genmab and Merus during the selection process. Kadans Science Partner will realize the project with her partners cepezed, Deerns and BAM Bouw en Techniek. The building will be developed with a high ambition for sustainability: BREEAM Excellent, and is located on a prominent spot near the entrance to Utrecht Science Park.

Utrecht Science Park is one of the top science parks in the Netherlands and is leading in the area of Life Sciences and Health. Kadans Science Partner is specialized in supporting tenants by the development of, investment in and management of buildings for the knowledge-intensive sector on and near science parks and university campuses.
