Utrecht Sustainability Institute (USI)
The Utrecht Sustainability Institute (USI) aims to make possible a transition towards sustainable urban regions in cooperation with business, the government and social parties. By working together structurally, improving cross-pollination between researchers and market parties and excellent expertise from various professional areas, the USI aims to offer sustainable solutions for the increasing pressure on urban regions at home and abroad. The issues for which it is seeking solutions include climate change, energy-dependence, scarcity in raw materials and water, explosive urbanisation and the associated social and economic tension.
The USI offers a platform for knowledge development and reflection on the various focus areas in sustainability. This is achieved using broad insight into the link between the various scientific, financial-economic and social-cultural aspects that play a role in the realisation of sustainable urban regions. USI is also involved in stimulating activity in sustainability and in education.
